Study programme
A short description of the master study programmeThe new, 2 year, Medical Informatics Master's Programme taught in English started on 1 September 2006. Bachelor Medical Informatics students can directly transfer to the Master Program. The focus of the Master's Programme in Medical Informatics is the improvement of the results and quality of medical practice and advancement of the effectiveness of the healthcare process. Within the healthcare domain, the master Medical Informatics mainly studies issues in the field of:
Medical practice (in particular medical decision making and the support of information systems in this) and/or patient-oriented issues.
Healthcare organization & process (in particular the use of information technology in the organization and design of operating processes in patient care (care chain logistics)).
The Master's Program consists of a number of modules. The common part of the programme consists of 8 modules and 2 multidisciplinary internships. In the discipline-specific electives (in-depth study), students select two of the three modules (elective courses), after which they carry out their research project (scientific research & master thesis).
Master profile
A short description of the master profileA Master of Medical Informatics uses and creates methods, knowledge of methods and concepts within the field of medical informatics to solve problems in healthcare and also to improve and introduce innovations in healthcare:
Compared to a Bachelor of Medical Informatics, a Master has more knowledge of the three fields of Medical Informatics (medical, care information and informatics). A Master is aware of the most important recent developments.
A Master not only possesses more knowledge, but also more insight into the three fields of Medical Informatics. Therefore a Master can be deployed better for more complex issues and problems in healthcare.
A Master can develop new methods for the evaluation of existing information systems and the development of new information systems, records, coding systems and standard vocabularies.
Keywords are: analysis, design, application, evaluation and innovation.
