Elective: MAM11 - Medical Records, Classification & Registries

 

Course description

Course Contents

In this course the individual student will work out a research question, drawn from current issues from extramural medical practice.

  • Medical report and medical registration, difference and similarity
  • Registration in behalf of reporting different forms of care taking (structure of extramural, transmural registration systems including EMR)
  • Useability of data for different purpose (care, scientific study, management, policy)
  • Evaluate models of registration (linking of quality demand to purpose of registration, different methods of determining the quality of data)
  • Quality guarantees of registration models
  • Medical classifications
  • Medical record linkage (theory and technique)
  • Aspects of Legal Rights of the Dutch Healthcare system (access to patient data, ownership to patient data, security, responsibility and liability)

 

Course lay-out

Individualised programs will be developed. Weekly, on Friday morning, progress meetings will be held.

 

Educational goals

Final attainment level:

  • Student is able to critically judge different models of medical report and medical data collection and to determ its utility value for different aims.
  • Student is able to evaluate the quality of current systems of registration and to identify influencing factors.
  • Student is able to formulate significant juridic questions in reference of new models of medical report and to indicate possible options.

In this course the student, in connection with the thesis project, will focus on the useability of different forms of medical registration in healthcare electronic record systems for different goals in order to be able to use a professional opinion about possible interoperability between different systems in case of the combined data use for purpose of chronic care in GP practice, hospital and patients theirselfs, but also about the aspects of data use by scientific or governmental institutes.

Because of participation in the two other elective courses it was not necessary to participate in this course.
