Evaluation

Evaluation of the course and assignments

This course ran parallel with the fifth course. The sixth (this) course is an medics course, the fifth course is an informatics course. The course had been rigorously changed, because the past years only 10 percent of the student passed the course. In eight weeks groups of four students presented 4 topics (2 weeks for every topic). Each group had to determine for itself what content about the topic was lectured to the other students.

It was time consuming and was a lot of work to find enough information about a topic and fit it into a lecture of 30 minutes. There were a lot of revisions and changes before the actual lecture was given. The fun part of this course was that you were in control of the topic and the lecture. The lay-out of this course was very successful.

As a lecturer you received feedback from the coordinator of the course, some guest professors (if any) and fellow students. The lecturer could use the received feedback to better him/herself for the second time (s)he had to present. I used my received feedback to better myself for the second lecture I gave.

Each group member had to give feedback to the chairman and the chairman had to give feedback to the group. The received feedback could be used to better yourself.

All these feedback was accompanied with a grade. All these grades resulted in a final grade for this course. I was very happy with the new course lay-out and it was the most interesting and nicest course of the first year. Furthermore the coordinator of the course was very enthusiastic and accessible. I learned a lot about leading a group and giving a lecture. Thanks to this course I had the opportunity to improve several academic skills and I used the opportunity to do this.
