Portfolio assignments
1.1 Curriculum VitaeIn this document my curriculum vitae is described, an English and a Dutch version is available.
1.2 Study Motivation
By doing this assignment I tried to describe my motivation to participate in the study Medical Informatics. The assignment is two-fold; at first my motivation is given and second I expressed my expectations of the study. By describing my expectations of the study I have also defined my definition of Medical Informatics.
1.3 Study Progress
After experiencing the academic life for half a year, students were obliged to complete this assignment. In this assingment I have reflected on my study progress and my ideas and experiences of the first three courses. I reflected on some difficulties and some things that - as a matter of fact - went easy.
1.4 Reflection
This assignment has been completed at the end of the first year. Because of the organizational change of the last course of the first year, we had to write and reflect about the experience to teach our fellow students on several subjects. Each student had to prepare a presentation of 30 minutes in a group of 4. Each week one of the group members gave the presentation and answered the questions of the audience. It was a fascinating experience and very instructive.
2.1 Profession
This was an voluntarily assignment, therefore it was not carried out, but I have completed the other two assignments of this year. The other two assignmetns are the next two mentioned (after this one) on this page. The goal of this assignment was to think about the jobs that are particularly interesting for a Medical Informatics student.
2.2 Extending Knowledge
After a year and a half each student had to choose an elective course. The only restriction for selection was that the course had to be academic. The goal of the elective course is to gather more knowledge, to extend your knowledge and your perspective of the world around you. The aim of the assignment was to think about an elective course and motivate the selection of a course. Furthermore the student had to describe what the course adds to the personal development of the student regarding to academic science. I have followed the courses Spanish and History of Science.
2.3 Application Areas
In a short article I have described in which areas Medical Informatics students can find their jobs. There are some main areas and some specific functions that are interesting for Medical Informatics students. You can read it all in this assignment.
3.1 Literature
The assignment consisted of two smaller assignments. At first the student had to compare two international journeys in the area of Medical Informatics; the impact factor has to be determined, compare review systems of the journeys and provide some informations about the editors. The second assignment was to choose a subject and describe the actors and their viewpoints. When all this has been described the student had to choose a viewpoint and motivate his decision. Furthermore the student has to mention what the role of Medical Informatics can be regarding this subject.
3.2 React on a job description
The aim of this assignment was to react on a job description that a student found in a (local) newspaper or on the internet. After the selection of an advertisement the student would engage in a role playing game with the study advisor. The study advisor would be the a representative of the company (or organisation) and the student tries to makes his job application successful. I have not done this assignment.
